Title: Folk Tale "The Bamboo Cutter"

Year Completed: 1987

Size: H71” × W56.5” / H180 cm × 143.5 cm

Material: old cotton (aizome, kusakizome, kasuri, sarasa, Indonesian batik), new cotton, sashiko thread (natural-dyed)

Statement: The vertical columns suggest bamboo with the slanted horizontal areas mostly representing the wind. The left-hand colorful area suggests the heroine of the story (Kaguyahime). This was the first quilt in which I used sashiko thread with natural-dyed colors.
