Description

Title: Kyoto as it was

Year Completed: 1985

Size: H79” × W67.5” / H201 cm × W172 cm

Material: new cotton (mostly Japanese, some American)

Statement: I had been looking at many traditional patterns without finding anything which interested me, but then in looking through a book of Japanese family crests I found some which would be possible in patchwork. Choosing one of these I modified the design slightly, and used it as a diamond-shaped block. At that time it was unusual to have a background in three shades of the same color.
