Description

Title: My Hometown

Year Completed: 1994

Size: H76.5” × W59” / H194 cm × W150.5 cm

Material: old silk (kimono, obi), wool, old cotton (noren, happi), new cotton (Japan, America), polyester

Statement: In a world dominated increasingly by new metallic machines (computers, cell phones, etc.) I still retain a love for wood objects (floor, ceiling, columns, furniture) with a special soft spot for grain patterns. For background I used a silk kimono which my grandmother wove as a young woman, along with various-textured black fabrics. Using many different fabrics I created wood patterns set against this background.
