Title: Thinking About the Past

Year Completed: 1988

Size: H76” × W56.5” / H193 cm × W144 cm

Material: old cotton (noren, furoshiki), new cotton (Japan, America), new linen

Statement: This represents my childhood, playing with neighborhood children in the street in front of our homes (in those days almost without traffic). Some of these homes had external bamboo blinds. Since these were narrow in width, several would be necessary for a single house. When one of these wore out, occasionally only that one would be replace, so that the row of blinds would have different shades. This feeling is shown in the background area with the eight smaller squares.
