Material: old cotton (aizome), new cotton (all Japanese, some hand-dyed0, embroidery with sashiko thread and sashiko stitching

Statement: The Winter before I made this quilt we travelled in the former East Germany. We were both surprised by the considerable poverty, very different from West germany. I saw an old woman wearing black tights with a large hole, which reminded me of my own childhood, when we too could not just throw away things, but repaired them as much as possible to conceal the damage. These recollections led to this design.
