Statement: This plays with the element of perspective, which has always fascinated me. If one interprets this image realistically, then we must understand that we are viewing from above. This side's colors have a Japanese feeling, even thought the background consists entirely of American hand-dyed cotton. When some of my students went with me to buy fabrics, they asked why I bought such dirty-looking colors, but when this quilt was finished, they asked where I had bought such attractive fabrics...
